Rachel Jones, PE, CFM Gwinnett County Section Manager, Stormwater Capital Planning
|
How long have you been a member of SESWA (years)? I have been a member for 17 years.
Have you served SESWA in the past? If so, how? Board Member (Georgia, 2023-present), Membership Committee Chair (2024-present), Membership Committee (2021-present), Conference and Education Committee (2020-21)
What abilities and attributes can you bring to the Board? I have a broad knowledge of the challenges facing stormwater managers and love that SESWA is such an amazing place to collaborate with others to solve these challenges. I have experience on both the private and government side of stormwater, giving me a valuable insight into the needs of SESWA’s membership. I have successfully led the SESWA Membership Committee as well as several committees for other water-related organizations in the past. I want to continue to bring my leadership, collaboration and organizational skills to SESWA.
What background and experience do you have in the stormwater industry? I have been working as an engineer in the stormwater field for over 24 years, including 16 years in consulting and the past eight years with the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources. My experience includes MS4 compliance, stormwater hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, floodplain mapping, stormwater master planning, asset management and green infrastructure planning, design and construction. I have a broad understanding of the challenges facing stormwater managers, engineers, contractors and vendors that will serve SESWA well.
Why do you want to serve on the Board of Directors? In the past 17 years of my membership in SESWA (fun fact-I gave my very first professional presentation at the SESWA conference in Charleston in 2008), SESWA has been an extremely valuable resource to me over my career. I want to give back to the organization and to the stormwater community by continuing to serve on the Board. I have built so many relationships and learned so much through SESWA conferences and serving on various committees and want to help ensure the continued sense of community, knowledge-sharing and advocacy that SESWA is known for. The past two years serving on the SESWA Board have flown by and I feel my work is not yet done.
