Mary Collier Eastburn, MS

City of Mobile
Environmental Manager

How long have you been a member of SESWA (years)?
I have been a member for two years.

Have you served SESWA in the past? If so, how?
Yes, I am currently serving on the Communication Committee.

What abilities and attributes can you bring to the Board?
I am a self-starter and passionate about civil service for my municipality. In my short time that I have been with the City of Mobile I have been leading our Litter and Recycling City-Wide Collection and Data analysis, as well as leading our MS4 Permit Program compliance and annual reporting. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to present our programs and projects at both the state and national levels.

What background and experience do you have in the stormwater industry?
In 2022, I made a career change from Marine Aquaculture to Environmental Science and began working for Alabama Power Company's water division. I was a scientific diver employed to conduct analysis of the local plant's output impacts in regard to macro vertebrates, micro invertebrates, and water quality throughout the local watershed. Following my time at Alabama Power Company, I began working for the City of Mobile as an Environmental Specialist. Over the last two years I have received QCI training for stormwater inspections, led internal Spill Response Training, advised landscaping and pressure washing BMPs and compliance for new businesses, conducted hundreds of City-driven service request to investigate possible illicit discharges within the city, as well as led all compliance for our MS4 permit.

Why do you want to serve on the Board of Directors?
I believe I would be an asset to the Board of Directors because I enjoy engaging with local businesses, contractors and residents, but would also like to increase the representation of Alabama within SESWA through stormwater education. I believe being on the Board would provide me with the connections and tools to achieve this goal but also provide a unique perspective to my fellow members.
