How long have you been a member of SESWA (years)? I have been a member for 10 years.
Have you served SESWA in the past? If so, how? Yes. I have served on the BOD in both municipal sector and private sector seats. I served as Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President on the executive committee. I have also been a member of committees, primarily the Communications Committee, for several years. I have spent about five years as the Committee Chair for the Communications Committee.
What abilities and attributes can you bring to the Board? I have carried a growth mindset with me in everything I do. I bring that same growth mindset to every Board meeting and every conversation that revolves around SESWA. Whether that growth involves deeper understanding of our field, membership, awareness of political concerns for our members, or any other difficulty stormwater professionals face I'm willing to dig in to aid growth in that area. I'm also not afraid to stand up for what is right even if the conversation may be uncomfortable. I will ask the question why to a point of exhaustion in order to drill down to the root of a decision ensuring that it fits for our membership and leads the organization to growth.
What background and experience do you have in the stormwater industry? I have been in the stormwater industry in varying capacities for my entire career. I started my career as a vendor representative focused in flood protection, coastal resilience, and hazard mitigation, then served as a Stormwater Program Manager and eventually Deputy County Engineer for a county in South Carolina, most recently have revolving back into the private sector realm holding a position in consulting. My experience gives me a unique perspective to serve the entirety of the SESWA community with my Board seat because I understand through my experiences in each industry member classification what is important to each and every one of the industries our organization serves.
Why do you want to serve on the Board of Directors? I would like to continue serving on this Board because I believe this organization is headed towards greater things for the stormwater community in EPA Region IV. SESWA has made great strides over the last 20 years and I believe we will make even larger strides over the next 20 years.
