Job Description: 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a liaison for internal and external clients and provides customer service assistance.

  • Work location is in the City’s Planning and Development Customer Service Center.

  • Responds to inquiries, complaints and information requests.

  • Assists property owners, developers and designers with compliance issues raised during development.

  • Verifies and provides stormwater review procedure and process information.

  • Reviews residential lot and commercial building permit applications for applicability stormwater regulations and policies.

  • Provides technical assistance related to floodplain, erosion and sediment control, riparian buffer, and impervious area regulations.

  • Reviews and verifies data and documents which may include: project submittals; property deeds, GIS data; and other engineering-related information.

  • Prepares, updates and/or maintains project files, databases, tracking documents, activity/performance reports, GIS, maps, and/or standards documentation.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Job Requirements: 

Typical Qualifications: Associate's Degree in engineering or directly related field and three years of paraprofessional engineering experience, preferably in area of assignment. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing/Certifications: Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing customer service.

  • Experience with one or more aspects of stormwater management (e.g. stormwater control measures, erosion and sediment controls, floodplain management, riparian buffers) in a design, review, inspection, or other capacity.

  • Education or experience related to watersheds, hydrology, or water quality.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.

  • Experience with mapping/GIS applications and ability to learn iMaps and ArcGIS online.

  • Experience with EnerGov or other permit management software.

Salary Information: Hiring Range: $47,440.00 - $62,000.00 (promotional range may vary)
